C5 corvette... spent the winter in the driveway. Couldn’t do anything better for it. It’s fiberglass. It will make it.
Yesterday I wanted to charge the battery and see if she will run. Battery doesn’t appear to be holding a charge. Will need a new one.
One of the windows wasn’t sitting quiet flush against the weather stripping and so I have a swimming pool in passenger seat floor area.
Got the seat out. Used a shopvac to get most of the water out. Put some salt in socks and left it on the floor. Hopefully salt will suck up the water. I will see how it looks today. If not, I will put some rice in there too. Speed up the process. If that doesn’t work either, I will add some pepper. Simmer it slow with some bay leaves. I will have me some C5 soup when it’s all done
Tried starting it with half dead battery. Car decided to throw some more shit at me - service steering lock. Fuck is that all about? I’ll service you... i’ll service you with a delete.
Gonna be doing some work tonight and tomorrow.

Close the doors up and run a dehumidifier inside for a day or two. It’s magic.
Or a few boxes of Damp-Rid.
I like the salt idea, but I also don’t want to open to door to some mice one day. Or a deer.

Mice or deer? How would... that even work? Doesn’t matter. I’ll fix the damp rug. I’ll fix the window regulator and weather stripping.
This is why i bought the stupid thing... to wrench on it. Even tho my wife hates me for it. “You are always out there wrenching on the stupid corvette”

I know it doesn’t help after the fact, but you really should invest in a good car cover.
My window seals leak in very heavy downpours, but thankfully only a tiny bit. Regardless, if I know awful weather is one the way, I toss the cover on and let it do its work.
As for the steering lock, it’s a common problem on the C5 (there was a recall issued for it many years ago). This is the best solution.

Thanks.
I will look into this... I wasn’t having this problem before putting it away last year. My guess is that maybe something got sticky and not moving as it needs to.
I was hesitant getting a cover as I didn’t want moisture getting trapped under the cover causing my blue corvette becoming a green corvette.

Never heard of using salt to dry carpet, but a quick google tells me that it’s a thing. Huh.
I still don’t feel comfortable using it, though. Not in a car, anyway. The bits that get tracked into my car during the winter have already done enough to my seat brackets...

Its in a sock.... salt will draw moisture but won’t sprinkle anything on the carpet or any metal bits in there. Worst case scenario is that the salt will become a big old salt rock. I can later use it to fight off car burglars

Seconding the cover. I have a cheap one for the time being and it works just well enough to keep any water out. Car looked great even after being under 2 feet of snow when covered. I also throw one of these in the passenger foot well since that is the last place you want any moisture.
You can adjust the window and how it sits against the weatherstripping. Also, I suggest a hose test to make sure it’s sealed up as best as possible.

Yeah. it has been on my list of things to do... but summer got away from me last year. I’ll get to it. I bought the regulator that controls the window in/out adjustment which is to blame for it not sitting against the weather stripping. I am even contemplating taking it to a body shop because i cant have this shit happening again. Annoying
I will consider a car cover too
